One of the principal purposes of the American Cetacean Society is to help bring scientists and the general public together. Our ability to bridge the gap between the layperson and the complex world of science and research is one of the things that makes us unique. ACS National publications, such as Whalewatcher, contain interesting articles by researchers whose focus is on science as relates to the world of cetaceans. This web site contains periodic summaries of selected discoveries which have been published in scientific journals about whales, dolphins, porpoises, and the world they inhabit. Respected researchers sit on our scientific advisory panel and review our educational publications. Many of the regional chapters either conduct research programs and/or fund grants for student researchers. You can read a summary of some of these efforts on the 'research programs' page in the About ACS section.
